Some The Walking Dead fans get so caught up in trying to pair Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) with either Beth Greene (Emily Kinney) or Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) that it leads them to start insulting the other female character. It’s sad, especially when Beth and Carol have always been on the same side, always had a lot of love for each other, and share so many similarities to their journeys.
It took Carol a few seasons to come out of her shell and find the confidence to be the strong woman she is today. She started as an even more scarred and scared version of Terminator’s Sarah Connor and now she’s the badass Sarah of T2. Beth was Maggie’s (Lauren Cohan) quiet little sister, who contemplated suicide, sang at the prison, took care of baby Judith, then had to learn survival skills in a baptism by fire. Both women lost someone very, very close to them. Both of them were helped along their paths by Daryl, but are brave enough to stand alone.
The Comic-Con trailer showed both Carol and Beth in survival mode, in different circumstances. We’re looking forward to a potential meeting of the their storylines in TWD Season 5, and it’s possible their stories will meet in the currently filming midseason finale. You have to imagine they’d both marvel at how far the other has come since the prison, never mind the old farm days.
Emily Kinney got us thinkin’ these Beth and Carol thoughts when she shared the illustration below on Instagram, captioned, "By Aykowa. Carol and Beth. I ❤":
We ❤ it too! It's beautiful. This is how the characters should be seen — side-by-side, working together. Nice detail work in the picture, too. Love Beth’s little hair braid and the shredded jeans.
Do you think Beth and Carol will end up side-by-side in Season 5, maybe fighting a common enemy at that hospital place in the trailer, trying to save each other? They can be the new Rick & Daryl!
The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres Sunday, October 12 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
